Waste to Art
The Sims Metal Waste To Art competition and exhibition commenced in 2005 within the NetWaste Region and has proven to be a very effective way of engaging with community about waste issues. It continues to grow and involves 23 of the 28 NetWaste member councils.
The Process
Some councils organise Waste To Art workshops in the lead up to the local exhibitions as a way of encouraging community members to participate in the local competition and exhibition. This is also a great opportunity to talk about waste issues and concerns.
Each year participating councils organise a local Waste To Art exhibition and competition and then the winning artworks are transported to a Regional Exhibition, which is hosted by a different council every year.
Photographs of a selection of the artworks showcased at the Regional Exhibition are then compiled become part of a travelling Photographic Exhibition that moves from council to council within NetWaste and is displayed in libraries, council foyer’s or as part of some other event . This is a great way to keep the waste discussion going and for communities to see the amazing creations that have been made using waste materials.
The 2015 Regional Exhibition is being hosted by Bathurst Regioanl Council from 18 June to 30 August 2015 at the Bathurst Flannery Centre, Havannah Street.
A travelling exhibition will commence during September 2015. This exhibition will run through until May 2016 & will include many of the NetWaste Council areas.
To enter the Waste to Art competition you must complete an entry form, or by contacting your local participating council. Please make sure you read the Regional Exhibition Terms and Conditions .
