Waste 2 Art 2019 catalogue

The 2019 Waste 2 Art Regional Exhibition is on from July 27 – August 17 at the Malachi Gilmore Hall, Oberon.

Entries from residents in thirteen member councils will be on show – make sure you visit and check out how baling twine, strapping and other waste items have been given a second chance at life in awesome pieces of art – just like this one titled ‘Powerful Owl’s nest’ by the Blue Mountains Community.

Made from soft plastics, strapping and discarded fabrics it’s a perfect home for the threatened Powerful Owl species found in the Blue Mountains of NSW.

2018 Waste to Art

Waste 2 Art 2018

This year’s theme Waste is Polystyrene. The aim of Waste 2 Art is to challenge people’s perceptions about ‘rubbish’ and to celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste through arts and crafts. Waste 2 Art provides an innovative approach to waste education, invites schools and community groups to take up the challenge and create a new life for materials that would otherwise have been thrown away.

2015/16 Waste to Art Overall Winner

Congratulations to our 2015/16 Waste to Art Overall Winner, Jack Fox of Condobolin.

2016 Waste to Art Overall Winner " “Alzheimer’s”
2016 Waste to Art Overall Winner ” “Alzheimer’s”

Jacks’ amazing work is titled “Alzheimer’s”. It won the category for High School 3D and then went on to take out the overall winners prize.  Jack describes his work as; “Hast du einen vogel”? is a German expression meaning ‘Are you crazy? or more literally ‘Do you have a bird in your brain’?. My work is a physical manifestation of this as it relates to, and explores the process and memory loss, as the bird flies away with the old
mans brain.

'I'll Be Book'. By A Stanger
‘I’ll Be Book’. By A Stanger

Artist Alan Stanger from Dubbo NSW took out this years Waste to Art People’s Choice Award with his wondeful wprk ‘I’ll Be Book’. The work was entered into the Community 3D section and is a sculpture carved out of old books.

“I wanted to bring about awareness to the environmental advantages of downloading eBooks over buying conventional printed books. In terms of the environmental impact, in the NSW alone, the Paper   Book Industry consumes 32,000,000 trees per year. I chose to sculpt a bust of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s infamous ‘Terminator’ character as it represents technology of the future.” (Artist quote)

Congratulations to Alan on this wonderful achievement and to all of the Winners and entrents in this years Waste to Art. We look forward to seeing your works in 2015/16.
